Effectiveness of mental health promotion interventions

A review of interventions providing practical insights into mental health promotion activities for implementation at local level was published by Health Promotion Wales in 1995. This identified possibilities for effective action in relation to four groups:

School-age children

  • Mental health problems which result from a family bereavement or divorce can be reduced by programmes which focus upon dealing with feelings of loss, conflict or anger.

People suffering from a severe or a less disabling mental health or behavioural problem

  • Family interventions for schizophrenia have been shown to be effective in preventing relapse.

There are other groups to also look at such as Infants and pre-school children  and  Adult and elderly populations
